Calm and Collected

Filed under: Random - Jen @ 5:05 pm

I was talking to our intern today… giving him some direction on a project he’s doing for me.  Then, sweet boy that he is, he told me that he knew I had a lot on my plate, and if he needed help with anything, to let him know.  So I, of course, commented that it was stupid how much I currently have on my plate.  He said yeah, and he was so impressed because I always seemed so calm and collected.

And I laughed in his face.

Memories

Filed under: Random - Jen @ 8:52 am

I receive a daily email from The New York Times.  I read through the headlines, occasionally click on an article (like this one… RIDICULOUS!)… but the highlight for me is the last item - this day in history.  And today’s took me back to one of my favorite days of high school:

"On Sept. 13, 1993, at the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and PLO chairman Yasser Arafat shook hands after signing an accord granting limited Palestinian autonomy."

I was a freshman in high school, sitting in the back of my US History class taught by the very hot teacher, Mr. McCall.  If I recall correctly, we always discussed current events at the beginning of class.  And I remember one of the girls raising her hand and proclaiming that "Yasser and Arafat signed an agreement."  Now, it was good that she had paid enough attention to know that something was going on… but perhaps noting that Arafat hadn’t signed the accord with himself would have been a helpful detail.

Ah… memories.

A Wrinkle in Time

Filed under: Random - Jen @ 9:02 am

I LOVED the Wrinkle in Time series when I was a kid.  I read them all, I was absolutely amazed by every page.  And today, I read on the American Bookseller Association’s blog that Madeleine L’Engle - the author of said series - passed away this week.  It’s odd.  I haven’t thought about those books in a long time, but still, seeing today that she had passed away… it made me really sad.  I mean - A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, The Arm of the Starfish… they really shaped my reading habits.  I’m going to have to go re-buy and re-read all of those books now… which is really going to back up my cue of books I need to read.  But still… those books are part of the reason that I have a cue of books to read.

Go read a book.  I can’t think of a better way to honor her memory.

Scrabble

Filed under: Random - Jen @ 5:31 pm

I am now up to 5 facebook scrabble games and I’ve found a Scrabble solitaire site too.  This is frickin’ awesome!  I didn’t even know I liked Scrabble this much!  Partly, it’s nice not to have to devote an entire evening to it… just a little here and there when I feel like it.  Whatever the case… it’s ROCKIN’!

My little brother and I are now playing an online game of Scrabble through Facebook.

Technology is so weird.

Superhair

Filed under: Random - Jen @ 2:03 pm

Okay, I haven’t seen the new Superman movie, so when I was flipping through the channels last night and saw that it was only about 10 minutes in, I decided to watch.  I’m pretty sick, so I fell asleep pretty early on, but I stayed awake long enough to see the big disaster sequence with the airplane and the shuttle and whatnot.  And may I just say… it pissed me off.  The plane is jostling all over the place, Lois Lane is slammed against all sorts of things as the plane is being propelled along by rocket boosters.  It’s a disaster sequence that makes LOST look like a fender bender.  Yet, once all is said and done, Superman boards the plane to see if everyone’s okay.  They are - if a little disheveled.  Lois, on the other hand, the person who was slammed repeatedly about the cabin at extreme velocity, is not only not even bruised… her hair is frickin’ perfect.

What the hell is that?!??!!?

Seriously… the movie lost me right there.  If it weren’t for Kevin Spacey, and the fact that they guy they cast as Superman has a pretty great Christopher Reeve sort of quality about him, I would give up on it altogether.
